Which properties does the designation cover?
The whole council district for the additional HMO category in the notice; the checker models ordinary shared houses only.
- An ordinary shared house with at least three people in at least two households, sharing basic amenities, unless exempt.
Scope, exclusions and separate checks
A valid licence from the previous scheme remains in force until its own expiry unless varied or revoked. Section 257 buildings, flats and unusual arrangements require council review.
- Mandatory licensable HMOs, Section 257 buildings and Schedule 14 buildings are excluded.
- Interim or final management orders and temporary exemption notices are excluded as defined in the notice.
Fees and the council application
Use Westminster’s current fee schedule and application process for your property. This record does not infer a fee from another council or a past year. A Rental Licensing subscription does not pay the council, submit an application or grant a licence.
What to do next
- Check the occupancy, household arrangement and any existing licence expiry.
- For flats, converted buildings or a claimed exemption, obtain an individual council assessment.
