SELECTIVE LICENSING · REVIEWED RECORD

Hackney selective licensing: 2026 commencement

Hackney’s current selective designation covers 17 mapped wards from May 2026. Its smaller HMO route applies across the whole borough instead.

Evidence reviewed Recorded period: to Revision 1
The exact address needs a boundary check.

This is a partial-area designation. Ward names and postcodes cannot by themselves establish whether this property is covered. Use the council map or address service.

Which properties does the designation cover?

Brownswood, Cazenove, Clissold, Dalston, De Beauvoir, Hackney Central, Hackney Downs, Hackney Wick, Homerton, King’s Park, Lea Bridge, London Fields, Shacklewell, Springfield, Stamford Hill West, Stoke Newington and Victoria.

  • Single tenants, single households or two individual sharers inside the designated area, unless excluded.

Scope, exclusions and separate checks

The legal ward map must establish the exact address. An address outside the selective area may still require additional or mandatory HMO licensing.

  • Mandatory or additional licensable HMOs use the relevant HMO route instead.
  • Social housing, management orders, temporary exemptions and statutory exempt tenancies require the notice’s exact definitions.

Fees and the council application

Use Hackney’s current fee schedule and application process for your property. This record does not infer a fee from another council or a past year. A Rental Licensing subscription does not pay the council, submit an application or grant a licence.

What to do next

  1. Use Hackney’s ward checker and notice map for the exact property.
  2. For three or more sharers, check the borough-wide HMO routes first.
